Three pigment prints on archival cotton paper, 16x20in each
Hand Ideology Triptych (2017) is a series of images made with digital scans of the artist's hand performing three symbols: the clenched fist (on the left); the peace sign (in the centre); and the Nazi salute (on the right). The work is a juxtaposition of simple gestures that carry significant meanings on broad ideologies associated with different sides of the political spectrum. With rising tensions between factions from each side, evident in increasingly frequent clashes like the Charlottesville incident (USA, Aug 2017), the images serve as a reminder that opposing sides often coexist, and history shows that the balance of power between them tend to oscillate with time.
Part of an ongoing interest in social issues, body fragments, signs and scanning technology.
